Righty:
I was the responsible one, tasked with pledging allegiance to the flag and saluting my commanding officer.
Lefty:
I was the responsible one, tasked with ensuring we got to our appointments on time and protecting the token of love I received from my beloved.
Righty:
I have always done more; it is how I was wired.
Lefty:
While we have done our own thing, there are times when we pursued a common purpose.
Righty:
When we worked together we could hold a basketball, do a head stand, put a small white, dimpled ball into a distant 4 inch hole, and race an old stick-shift car down a vacant street.
Lefty:
When we worked together, we could finely mince an onion, make a cello sing, cajole a guitar into weeping, and elicit ceaseless laughter by swinging our grandchild through the air.
If we were lucky, our creations would inspire awe.
If we were very lucky, we would reveal the hidden truths of the universe.
Righty:
And I can sketch the branches of a majestic oak tree!
Lefty:
And I can catch a baseball!
Righty:
While many see us merely as the mirror image of the other, life’s path has given each of us specific capabilities and a unique beauty shown in the scars derived from a life well lived.
Lefty:
Together and alone, we have accomplished much we can be proud of!
Righty:
Together and alone, we will continue working hand-in-hand, until journey’s end.
